The Franklin Lions Club screened nearly 70 area residents for vision & glaucoma during the "Lions in Sight" event on Tuesday, January 26, 2010.

Dr. Frank Killian, Josie Alonso, Interpreter from the Macon County Sheriff's Office, our extended Lions family and voluteers for making this event a tremendous success.
EYEGLASS COLLECTIONS: This is an ongoing project. We have collection
boxes in various locations in the Town of Franklin. The glasses are collected
and counted, then sent to Camp Dogwood where they are sent on for distribution. The Franklin Lions Club also collects hearing aids.
WHITE CANE: The money from White Cane goes to NCLF (North Carolina
Lions Foundation) which uses it for services for the blind such as providing
white canes, radio reading service, Barille, hearing aids and other humanitarian projects. The Franklin Lions has a renewed focus on White Cane with several fund raisers planned for this year.
VISION SCREENING: Each year our club vision screens ALL the students in Macon County. This is done during health fairs setup by school nurses. We utilize Titmus Vision Screening Machines that have charts for students who their alphabet as well as an "E" chart and one that is just pictures.
BBQ SCHOLARSHIP FUNDRAISER: Each year the Franklin Lions Club feeds hundreds a BBQ Dinner with all the fixins' on the Fourth of July. It is held at the Macon County Fairgrounds and is an all day project. All monies from this event go to our four (4) $1,000 scholarships.
SCHOLARSHIPS: Every year the Franklin Lions give four $1,000 scholarships for students from Franklin. The student chosen each year is promised $1,000 a year for four years as long as they stay in college and keep good grades. The student is chosen based on need. In other words, students are usually not in the top 10% of their class and/or receive any other financial support.
MACON COUNTY FAIR BOOTH: Come September you'll find Franklin Lions at the Macon County Fair selling brooms, light bulbs and other items manufactured by the blind.
MINT SALES: As an ongoing project, the Franklin Lions display Mint Trays at various business locations throughout the area. Monies raised are used to support local Lions projects.
AMERICAN FLAGS: The Lions Club of Franklin proudly displays the American Flag in front of businesses within the Town of Franklin on 8 different holidays. Businesses support the Lions project by paying $25 a year.

DIME BOARD: This special project takes place just before Christmas. For three weekends, you'll see Lions at various locations around Franklin collecting money for our Santa Pal project and Christmas Baskets for shut ins. The nice thing about our Dime Boards is that all money stays in Macon County.
SANTA PAL & CHRISTMAS BASKETS: Money raised during our Dime Board weekends fund these two special holdiay projects. Franklin Lions take 25 to 30 youngsters shopping for clothing then to meet Santa for special gifts courtesy of the Toys for Tots Program administered locally by the Smoky Mountain Detachment of the Marine Corps League. Our gift baskets contain food gift certificates and goodies for the elderly and shut in.
DIABETES AWARENESS: This project is special to Lions locally, on the the district level, and internationally. This program is of special interest since Diabetes is the major contributor of blindness.
FISH FRY: This is a fun day for Franklin Lions and their families. The event is held at the Macon County Recreation Park and gives the Lions an opportunity for great food and fellowship. Our annual scholarship winner and family are also invited to the event.
