EYEGLASS COLLECTIONS: This is an ongoing project. We have collection boxes in various locations in the Town of Franklin. The glasses are collected and counted, then sent to Camp Dogwood where they are sent on for distribution. The Franklin Lions Club also collects hearing aids.

BRIGHTER VISIONS: The money from White Cane goes to NCLF (North Carolina Lions Foundation) which uses it for services for the blind such as providing white canes, radio reading service, Barille, hearing aids and other humanitarian projects. The Franklin Lions has a renewed focus on White Cane with several fund raisers planned for this year.

VISION SCREENING: The Franklin Lions Club has routinely screened all the students in Macon County using Titmus Vision Screening machines or the Snellon "E"chart. With the new "Spot Camera vision screener," testing is more precise and school nurses have been allowed to used the Franklin Lions Club machine to screen 3,000 students in Macon County

POKER RUN / SCHOLARSHIP FUNDRAISER: Collaborating with Dowdle Mtn. Pitstop, Zeus' Ridgecrest Automotive and Appalachian Ace Hardware ... the Annual Poker Run is open to all vehicles and is held rain or shine. Features a scenic drive through the mountains of western North Carolina and is held annually. Entry fees go to support the Franklin Lions Club Scholarship Program.

SCHOLARSHIPS: Each year the Franklin Lions give four $1,000 scholarships for students from Franklin. The student chosen each year is promised $1,000 a year for four years as long as they stay in college and keep good grades. The student is chosen based on need. In other words, students are usually not in the top 10% of their class and/or receive any other financial support.

Broom Sales: The Franklin Lions offer our "Broom Sales" several times a year including during "PumpkinFest" held in October in downtown Franklin. The sales feature products made by and to support the visually impaired.
